How adoption can turn a child's life around

How adoption can turn a child's life around

“William came to us as an adorable four month-old baby boy. His mother had struggled with drug misuse problems, and William’s siblings had all been taking into care

“Coram helped us to understand what it would mean to take on a little boy who’s had a really difficult start in life.

“The possibility that William might go back to his birth mother was always in the back of our minds, but we thought, ‘this is a win-win situation for him. Either he goes back to his birth family and it is safe for him there, or he stays with us who he knows and where he is loved.’

“Everything felt so different when we were told we could adopt William. Instead of thinking ‘if’ we are now thinking ‘when’ – we can plan for the future.

“William has bonded with us really well. We just love him so much. He still has contact with his birth siblings - we think it is important for him and his identity when he gets older.

“Adoption isn’t easy, but thanks to Coram’s training and support we feel we can deal with whatever challenge we might face.

“Neither of us can believe it’s only been a year since William joined us.  It feels like he has always been a part of our lives.”
