Every Day is Everything

Every child needs and should have a permanent family and home – but too many children are spending too much of their childhood without one, or never having one at all.

About the campaign

You Can Adopt has launched a new campaign to show that adoption isn’t about being perfect – it’s about being there and showing up for a child every day. And for those who need adopting, every day is everything.

It’s about the ordinary days – the morning rush, the mealtimes, the bedtime chats, the moments that may feel small… But for a child who has experienced upheaval and instability in their early life, being there – for the ups, downs and all the days ahead – means everything.

Children in need of adoption are spending an average of 646 days of their childhood in temporary care – days that could have been spent with their permanent family and home.

That’s nearly two years, and for a young child, that is a huge proportion of their life. And in early childhood, every day matters.

The future of adoption

There are currently less than half the number of adopters needed for children who need a permanent family.

  • If adopter recruitment falls further, there may only be enough available families to meet 13% of need by 2030.*
  • If adopter registrations returned to the levels from just five years ago, permanent homes could be found for nearly 1,000 more children by 2030.*
“I was adopted when I was just a few months old, so adoption has always been part of my story. Growing up, I never really questioned it – I was surrounded by a loving family who supported me, encouraged me and helped me believe in myself. They never put limits on what I could achieve. As I’ve got older, though, I’ve reflected more on what adoption means and the incredible impact it has had on my life.”
Ellie Simmonds OBE
“Adopting Roxy was the best thing I’ve ever done. Seeing the confident, caring woman and mum she has become reminds me that every child deserves the security and sense of belonging that growing up in a permanent family provides.”
